The Greater Good?

Welcome to The Greater Good?
A test of your moral compass.

The Greater Good?

The Greater Good? is an interactive exploration of moral reasoning, based on two foundational ethical frameworks: Deontology and Utilitarianism.

Throughout this short game, you’ll encounter morally complex scenarios, each forcing you to make a decision. Your answers will reveal whether you lean toward a principle-based or outcome-based approach to ethics.

🧭 What’s the difference? 🧭

  • Deontological Ethics
Rooted in the work of philosophers like Immanuel Kant, deontological reasoning holds that certain actions are intrinsically right or wrong — regardless of their consequences. For a deontologist, morality lies in following duty, rules, or universal principles.

  • Utilitarian Ethics
Popularized by Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill, utilitarianism evaluates morality based on outcomes. The goal is to maximize overall well-being or minimize harm — even if it means breaking a rule or causing individual suffering.
